Why contrast words matter in IELTS Listening: Speakers often say one thing and then change it. The first idea is usually the trap (distractor). Contrast words are your warning signal: the real answer usually comes AFTER the contrast word.
π§ “The lesson is on Monday, but it has moved to Tuesday.”
β Answer: Mondayβ
Answer: Tuesday
β οΈ Change-of-mind signals
βοΈ Two opposite ideas
π« Unexpected result
π Correction & replacement
π§ What to listen for
π‘ IELTS Listening tip: Read the question first and underline the key word (day, price, time, place). When you hear but, however or actually, stop and listen carefully. Write both ideas in your notes, then choose the final one. Never write the first answer too quickly.
