What is skimming? Skimming means reading quickly to understand the main idea, not every word. In IELTS Reading, a short skim of the passage (about 2 to 3 minutes) helps you understand the structure and know where to find information later.

π‘ IELTS tip: You have 60 minutes for 3 passages, so about 20 minutes for each one. Skim for 2 to 3 minutes, then scan to find the answers. Skimming helps most with matching headings and main idea questions.
